The officials of Dubai has announced on Tuesday a new mega-project and construction of new century: 75 km Arabian Canal, which appears in the southern “new” Dubai, and transform the massive Jebel Ali landmass into an island.
As always with the Dubai construction, Arabian Canal to beat a couple of world records. It is not only one of the most complex and major engineering construction of the world, but also one of the most expensive: The Dubai government plans to spend on the channel US $61 billion.

However, the construction of the channel will be only a small part of the grand project. Channel, which will snake from Dubai Waterfront in Jebel Ali and pass to the east of the Dubai World Central development before turning back towards the Palm Jumeirah would cost $11 billion and $50 billion will be spent to build a new “city” in the city, which would take 20,000 hectares of land in the south bank of the channel.
The channel will be 150 metres wide and six metres deep, enough to accommodate yachts up to 40 metres long.
Work on the channel project is to start in December and will take around three years to complete, while construction of the waterfront development will begin at the end of next year and be completed in phases over a 15 year period.
“Arabian Canal will, without question, be one of the wonders of the engineering world,” said Saeed Ahmad Saeed, chief executive officer of Limitless the developer of the project.

Projects like these, explain why gas is a dollar a liter in Canada……
you can be happy with the 1$/liter in europe we have to pay nearly 2$/liter
you are missing the point here
UAE does not depend on oil exports to the west, its the most advanced country in the gulf if not the the entire middle east
To arab dude: That may well be, but I’m sure that in the end we are somehow affected by this gross display of wealth. I’m sure the average individual will not benefit from this ,one little bit….
Paul
the UAE is the biggest tourist attraction in the gulf
of course this will boost its income
when all the oil is sucked dry, i think UAE will be the only gulf state holding its own.
This a project that will benefit the entire region and the diversity of the investors makes it a global project.
If someone has a gold brick, do you complain they cannot spend their windfall when they sell it? Or in Dubai’s case, if they attract petro-investment from all around the Gulf? If you want to worry less about fuel costs think about how the market works and what things might decrease demand.
Sorry but somebody is missing a point here.
If you have ever been in Dubai, I wonder how they can attract more and more people as the prices are already sky-high. Most average people struggle to live in Dubai.
Even I thought it was too expensive, and will spend my money in the UK instead. Project like this will only attract building companies and suppliers. The sight of all world’s cranes in Dubai was absolutely disgusting.
Worlds economy is affected whatever anyone will say.
HMMM, Thats what happens when you have lot of money, dont know what to do with it?!! you dig in sand to form a canal and sea water … and draw shapes and play on the beach … dont convince me its ballocks sorry Im not convinced
well thats cool but 1 thing every 1 should understand or they knew it already that..these all every thing is gonna be vanish 1 day …infact it doesnt take a second to destroy by almight god…!but still i wish for the goodness….!
This might not benefit the world people but nothing like this has ever happened in my life. . . Dubai is a city like no other and no matter what anyone says dubai will soon be the centre of the world and worth visting! the sight of the all the cranes is ridiculous but so magnificent i have never seen or heard of construction on such a scale!
let me gues i don think so
Dubai is catering to the world’s RICH … not the average tourist. If you want the RICH crowd to go to your place, you have to INVEST to make it sumptuous. I know a family (from Venezuela) that went to Dubai for a week, LOVED it and left almost $15,000 to Dubai’s economy. That’s what it’s all about. Let the average go to Las Vegas (that’s me), and let the elite have their opulent playground. After black gold is gone, tourists’ greens will be welcome.
May be it’s not that excellent projects for some. But using the money this way and benefit some, is much more better than using it for WARS and distroying others. so who waste money? who is effecting the world’s economy badly?
i just want ajob digging the canal once in alife time chance to put your mark on the world
DUBAI ROCKS
